So in order to make the changes that I WANT to break and make new habits.
I have been doing some research on how to break and make new habits and there seems to be 3 common things that need to be done in order to break and make new habits.
1. Value the Change - you have to WANT it enough to really change. The urgency for the change must be there.
2. Make a Plan - Without a plan it is just a hope. You need to plan for the change by figuring out what it is that makes you want to do the old habit, be prepared with your new habit, and reward yourself when you have completed that new habit. Decide ahead of time what you are going to do to change the habit so that when you are faced with a challenge you can honestly tell yourself, "I GOT THIS!"
3. Identify with It - Now you get to see yourself as that person. Become that person TODAY. I WANT to be fit and smaller so as of today I am now a fit and smaller person.
For me here is what I am going do in order to break and make new habits:
1. Work out 5x per week starting out with 30 mins - I am a little out of shape
Value - the sense of accomplishment, weight loss and added energy
Plan - Monday 5:30am-6:00am
Tuesday 5:30am-6:00am
Wednesday 5:30am-6:00am
Thursday 5:30am-6:00am
Friday 5:30am-6:00am
Saturday BE OUTSIDE MORE
Sunday free day
Identify - I am a successful person that works out in the morning to clear my head and prepare for the day.
2. Not snacking after 7pm
Value - Do not want to cancel out the hard work put in from the rest of the day
Plan - If I feel like I want to go and get a snack I am going to start on the crocheting that I have been doing. I have started a few new fun hobbies and I know that I can keep my hands busy by doing those. I have started sewing and crocheting again.
Identify - I am done with snacking in the evenings. I keep myself busy by working on learning to crochet and read patterns as well as sew.
In order to make sure that the changes in my life are permanent I am only going to work on 2 habits at a time. I do not want to get overwhelmed and am going to succeed.
I would love to hear what others are working on and what I can do to support you as well.
